Use ALSA snd-aloop module for audio input with VirtualBox

0

I'd like to be able to change an audio input device for a virtual machine I'm running in VirtualBox (more specifically, I'm using the Genymotion Android emulator). Preferably using snd-aloop, but if this can be done with PulseAudio or anything else, this works as well. I want to play audio in the system player and record it in my app running in the emulator. I know how to output the system player audio to an audio stream created by usage of ALSA snd-aloop, but I don't know how to make the virtual machine use another audio input device.

VirtualBox audio settings do allow me to choose ALSA audio driver as the host driver, but there is no snd-aloop-related option for the controller.

A similar question (except the poster was using two VirtualBox machines) was asked here, but no answer was given, so I thought I'd try asking my own question.
