problem with a new graphic card (GeForce GT 710) in Kubuntu 18.04

I have a matherboard graphic card and a new (GeForce GT 710) graphic card: my monitor is now connected via VGA to this new one. Installed proprietary driver of my distro, Kubuntu 18.04.
I have a problem with screen off: the screen is off 3 sec, but after that is still active, amd I can see the screesaver image, very obscure and off-centered. After, off 3 sec., after on and so on.

I tried to remove nvidia driver, but with nouveau driver I have many crash (in particular Falkon, but not only).

So I reinstalled the nvidia driver, but the problem is not solved: always the same bug.

EDIT

This is my modified etc/default/grub line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.enable_rc6=0 i915.enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 i915.semaphores=1 i915.enable_execlists=0"

I added this to avoid a crash problem when PC was in screen off. Maybe I have to re-modify that line?

EDIT

Modified that line, so: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash", but the problem is not fixed

EDIT

Modified grub, so: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nvidia-drm.modeset=1", but the problem is still not fixed

EDIT

Modified grub, so: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset", but the problem is still not fixed

Thank you for your help.

  • This possibly won't happen with the GeForce GT 710 graphics card if you connect it to an HDMI monitor with an HDMI cable.

  • Thank you: in effect my monitor is connected via VGA (and can be connected only so), and I need the hdmi port for a second monitor (e-ink).

  • Am I correct in assuming that the second e-ink monitor is working properly?

  • I have not received it yet, it should arrive on the 4th or 5th of December...

Maybe the problem was the monitor: with another monitor (same PC) no problem!
