I read this article and want to avoid the complicated procedure to get microsoft teams running on ubuntu 18.04.

Is there a simpler way?
Use Windows (either as a dual boot or virtualized).
Otherwise you will need to go through every hoop Microsoft puts in place. Not using it is another option.
Microsoft Teams is supports Android, too.

I have not tried it yet, but AFAIK android apps can get executed under ubuntu.
