Mpd failing to find music and playlist folders, ignores paths specified in /etc/mpd.conf

0

When I run the following:

sudo mpd

I get:

Dec 23 12:49 : config: Failed to stat directory "/var/lib/mpd/Playlists": No such file or directory
Dec 23 12:49 : config: Failed to stat directory "/var/lib/mpd/Music": No such file or directory

Even though, the following lines are in my /etc/mpd.conf:

music_directory "~/Music"
playlist_directory "~/Playlists"

I know mpd is using the config file because when I run mpd without sudo, I get the following error:

errno: Failed to open /etc/mpd.conf: Permission denied

I've also tried sudo mpd /etc/mpd.conf, which gives me the same 'Failed to stat directory' errors.
Any ideas?

  • Replace ~ by the full written out pathname to your personal folders, i.e. /home/<yourlogin>
