Permissions settings

I am using Kubuntu 18.04 on a Dell Optiplex 990 64 bit.

Something has happened in my settings.
When I plug a thumb drive or camera chip in to a USB port I cannot write to it.
It recognizes it and I can copy from it, but cannot write to it.
I am the only user of this computer.
When I look at permissions for the USB device it says "You don't own this" and it says the root has permissions.
Just to make sure the computer hardware was not dieing I did a fresh install of Kubuntu on a spare hdrive and everything worked fine.

Is there a setting to change for all USB devices?

Thanks
G
