Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Chromium and Firefox issues

0

I am totally new to Linux. I'm working on a Dell Vostro 1000 and installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32bit yesterday, alongside Windows 10.

I managed to solve issues with the Broadcom Network Adapter and am now able to use Ethernet and Wireless connections.

But now I'm stuck:

  1. I want to sync my Google account so would like to use Chromium, but it does not boot.

  2. I want to watch Netflix and am unable to do so on Firefox. I cannot install Chrome because I am on a 32 bit system.

Please help!

  • Why 14.04? It will be unsupported soon. I'd suggest Lubuntu 18.04 that still supports 32 bit. Also you can watch netflix on firefox (at least in 18.04)

  • 14.04 because my computer does not fit the recommended requirements for more recent versions of Ubuntu.

  • I infact suggested Lubuntu that is suited for older computers and requires 1 GB of RAM, plus a Pentium 4, Pentium M, or AMD K8 CPU or newer. You can download it here

  • @dsSTORM thank you. If I install Lubuntu, will I then be able to use Chromium and watch Netflix? I had quite some trouble with Ubuntu, when I did the clean install, it did not recognize the Ethernet and WiFi adapter. If possible I would like to avoid having to troubleshoot this as well with Lubuntu.

  • Broadcom network cards are really frustrating to work with, I think you'll have to redo the procedure that got your card working in the new install too, I'm sorry. Another thing is that I don't think chromium supports 32bit anymore (i know chrome doesn't). But as I said , you can view netflix in firefox.
