Unable to get GUI working over HDMI

0

I have been running a Plex server on Lubuntu in my closet for over a year now and have been remoting in via VNC without issues. I decided to connect it to my new TV to add web browsing and all I get is a flashing white underscore on a black screen. Connecting with VNC gave me a full desktop.

After some research I tried installing GDM3. I now have a login screen that is working but after logging in the screen freezes. Connecting with VNC shows that the desktop is there and if I log out the screen unfreezes and I can log in again to same problem.

I have tried installing other desktops like Cinnamon but they do the same thing. I am not sure where to take it from here. Anyone have any ideas?

Details

  • OS: Lubuntu 18.04 LTS

  • CPU: Intel Pentium G3220T

  • RAM: 1 GB
