Is Ubuntu actually downloading?

I'm installing Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS. I selected to have my hard disk wiped and to have a complete install of Ubuntu. Right now it's been over an hour since I started and the little round circle where the cursor is is rotating but I can't tell if the Ubuntu software is actually downloading. Is there a way to know if the software is still loading? Thanks for any help.

If you are using the Desktop installer, then you already downloaded Ubuntu (it's compressed on the install USB), and the installer provides nifty updates on what it's doing. Reboot and try again.
