Junction of supspaces

I don't understand how a junction of two subspaces are calculated.

I have two subspaces on $mathbb{R}_4[x]$, $U$ and $W$

  • $U=langle x^3+4x^2-x+3, x^3+5x+5, 3x^3+10x^2+5rangle$

  • $W=langle x^3+4x^2+6, x^3+2x^2-x+5, 2x^3+2x^2-3x+9rangle$

And I need to find a base and the dimension of the junction of the two, can anyone just give me a jumping off point at least?
